Dying Light has its own Destiny-style loot cave

Loot caves are so hot right now.

Techland’s Dying Light was released yesterday on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 and we’re already hearing reports of a reference to Destiny’s now infamous loot cave tucked away within the title’s horrific world.

According to Reddit user ZachyWillz, the loot cave can be found in the top-right corner of Dying Light’s map. Once you enter the cave, a pile of remains will be sitting there and the following message will be displayed on screen: “Your destiny is to become legend. Obtain more loot.” You’ll then become swarmed with zombies that will spawn from the cave. Once the player takes out the horde, the following message will be displayed: "Enough! Patch 1.0.2 has been released! Do more quests!"

To get an idea of what the loot cave looks like in Dying Light, feel free to check it out for yourself in the video below.

So, I played a couple of hours of Dying Light last night, and it's pretty fucking good.

I hope you're not planning on doing it split-screen, because that's not an option from what I hear.

Nope - we have computer desks right next to each other in our front room - so we play together on there.

To be honest we hate splitscreen - we ended up buying two PS4's so we don't need to worry about it as it destroyed our enjoyment of stuff like the Lego games (I just reaaaally hate splitscreen)

Yeah, I'm assuming both of those will upgrade over time, but right now I just want to bust open zombie heads and they're doing their best to NOT let me do that :( dropping a gas tank in the middle of a crowd of zombies and watching them all explode is sure a lot of fun, though!

Yep, they do improve as you're able to wield stronger weapons. I have weapons now that can be repaired 5 or 6 times.

I am still in the very early game, but I got the distinct sense that I was not supposed to be busting in skulls left and right. Running away seems far more promoted.

I think I have way too much loot for the early stages.

I lured all these zombies to a flaming car and kicked them all into it. Flaming zombies EVERYWHERE. Thankfully, they don't run around very much. They just slump over and die, so I ended up killing like...20 zombies and looted all of their bodies afterward.

              Awww, yea!

I am not too worried about loot. I kinda like the idea of just killing things when I actually need to make something.

Maybe the "Be the Zombie" mode can offer this kind of gameplay? I have yet to try it out, but I know what you mean. I get the itch to just assault anything that comes my way.

It's got very little durability though, so it's not viable for long.

Yeah, it's located on a small island you can easily reach when you first leave the tower. You have to hold down the "pick up" button for a few minutes, and you pull it from a corpse, get a bunch of XP, and then you can grab the sword. It's only got like, 7 durability, but it does a lot of damage.

The thing is still hella fun to find and use. Viability be damned.

It plays very similar to dead island so far. With the added jumping and climbing around. Its dead island with more mobility basically.

So far the durability seems worse. But i thought dead island was fun despite its jankiness. Theres something satisfying about just mindlessly coop bashing zombies with melee weapons.

How does it compared to dead island? I've played a bit of DI but the game doesn't seem to explain itself well so I lost most of my interest in it.

First things first, I loved Dead Island and I played my first run completely solo, had no issues at all with the game.

What do you mean by the game explaining itself, exactly? Dying Light has an adequate movement tutorial and the crafting system is extremely simple. Skill trees are also pretty straight-forward, and you get points simply for doing things, in a much more natural way than Skyrim.

I just feel lost. Maybe I need to bang my head against it some more, I unlocked the light house and have a few collection quests but having to drive across the island to pick up some juice for the 3rd time isn't all that fun and there doesn't seem to be another direction to check out.

Doesn't seem to be a bad game, I guess I'm just looking for something a little more streamlined / hand holdy.

Oops, I misread your original question, you were asking about Dead Island, not Dying Light.

It's honestly been way too long for me to remember the early game of Dead Island, but I actually have fond memories of that stupid juice fetch quest. The place where you have to jack the juice from was fun to shoot up, and I think that's one of the first areas they use to show you how to combo environmental stuff with kills.

If you want more tips and stuff, I'm pretty sure there are some Let's Play's on YouTube you could check out. I saw a 1 hour early gameplay vid of Dying Light, and it essentially taught me the game's crafting an leveling system before I'd even owned the game.

Game is a blast to play and now that they have a loot cave (arguably the BEST part of Destiny) its even better. CONGRATS to the devs!
