Nintendo Wii U owners will be given the opportunity to play Wii games a bit easier now that select titles will be made available within the Nintendo eShop.

Starting today, Nintendo Wii games will be made available on the Wii U eShop, with the first title being Super Mario Galaxy 2. In a few weeks, additional titles will become available with Punch-Out!! releasing on January 22 and Metroid Prime Trilogy available on January 29. Nintendo is also making these games available for half their listed price for one week after it’s released. Once that week is up, prices will return to their normal rate.

Games that are compatible with the Classic Controller will be able to experience their Wii games with the Wii U GamePad.

I still have all of these on disc. I might consider getting them again digital, for that just in case scenario. Where a disc might mess up or get scratched. Punch Out and Mario Galaxy 2 were awesome.

If Galaxy 2 doesn't require the wiimote, I'll rebuy it.

It does. It's only if the original game was compatible with the Classic Controller that you can use the Gamepad. You need the wiimote for picking up star bits and the Yoshi sections in SMG2.

While there's no prob with that, a bit overkill since it only supports 2.0 I believe.

You're right, but the drive was on sale at the time, so I thought "why not?"

I may switch it out in the future if I need a USB 3.0 drive for something, but as of now, I don't.

They've only announced Mario Galaxy 2, Punch Out, and Metroid Prime Trilogy so far. Only one actually out is Mario Galaxy 2 with the others following later this month. They did say there will be more so I have my fingers crossed, I don't really want to pay $50 for those games on eBay.

I bought a 2TB for my PS4 already, and am going to take its 500GB, throw it in the 2TB's chassis and hook that up to my Xbox One.

Between user-installable hard drives and the patches required for the latest generation of consoles, it's almost like owning a stupid PC.

are all steam machines just going to be streaming machines that require a separate PC, or are they going to put out some powerhouse standalone boxes? or is this still good ol valve style unknown information

I have seen standalone steam machines, but I am sure there will be some cheaper more crippled ones too. Valve is not taking much of a risk on their side with this. The hardware partners are the ones that are sticking their necks and wallets into the fire.

I think they're going to have a spec powerhouse machine, but the fact that they're targeting Linux for the OS kind of makes a spec Steambox a no-go.

I coincidentally started playing Punch Out two weeks ago. When it came out I only got to the third circuit and stopped.

The game is great and I can't believe I kind of passed on it. It seems to have flown under a lot of radars, I think partly because it came out as the Wii was declining. Same thing happened with me and Donkey Kong Returns. The digital rerelease is a good chance for people to discover it.

It really opens up on the 2nd playthrough, as all of the bosses have different moves/mechanics when you're defending the belt.

Absolutely awesome game, one of my favorites from the previous gen. And you're right, it's entirely overlooked in 95% of every "what wii games are good" threads. :(

Super Mario Galaxy may be the single greatest joy I have ever had gaming. The game turned me and my family into 5-year-olds again.

It's right up next to Elite/DK2 and seeing Quake 1 with a 3D card.
