The Sims 4 update embarks on new 'Careers'

Because even Sims need to make a living. Also, get ready to celebrate the holidays with a free holiday pack.

The Sims 4 is more than just kicking trash cans and throwing pool parties. Virtual people need to make a living, too. The latest update from EA and Maxis is offering a couple of new career paths for Sims, while also adding in new holiday items to help ring in the season.

Sims can now venture towards a 'Business' career, which can eventually branch them off towards becoming an investor branch path or a management path. Those looking to exercise their athletic gifts can endeavor towards an 'Athlete' career, which can branch off to either a lucrative professional athlete or bodybuilder profession. Sims will unlock certain objects that tie in to their career path, but can also utilize new chance cards that can help them cut a few corners. Each career can lead to new rooms being added to the game's Build Mode.

And because it's that time of year, all Sims 4 players are being gifted a Holiday Celebration Pack, filled with holiday outfits and items. This can be redeemed from the Origin store or in-game.

The Sims 4 'Careers' update is being added at no extra charge. The game is available now on PC.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I'm still waiting for the update that patches out the mid game loading screens.

I'm not planning on going back to this game anytime soon (if at all). I'm not interested in playing a Sims game that lacks many things from previous sims games and, more importantly, doesn't have open world anymore.

That's the part right there I can't believe they removed. Most of the other changes I've read about I don't care much about or don't think is a big deal, but no story progression/family trees is an astonishingly dumb thing to remove from a Sims game.

Cant play this game. I have zero idea what was going through EA's mind when they made this abomination.
There is so much wrong with this game that I could write about 10 pages full.
In contrast makes SIms 3 seem like a masterclass in game design. Hell I went back and played Medieval Sims which was better than this nonsense.

I hope this marks the end of the Sims for the foreseeable future. Let this series breath and when they come back they come back to make the game we deserve not this thing.
