LEGO Batman 3 game director talks about leaving Gotham

Shacknews recently had a chance to catch up to Arthur Parsons, game director for LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, and talk about the series expanding beyond Gotham City.

Gotham City remains in the grips of street-level crime, but at some point during Batman's stint as the city's protector, he realized that stopping that crime sometimes meant tackling something bigger. With that in mind, Batman joined the Justice League and kept watch for galactic-level threats, which is where Traveller's Tales is going next for LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham.

"This is really us going big," game director Arthur Parsons told Shacknews. "It's reaching out into the widest areas of the DC Universe to bring more to LEGO Batman. It's named 'LEGO Batman,' but it's more about everything. We've got all the Lanterns in there, the Lantern worlds, we're going away from Earth, we're going away from Gotham, and we're just going to go to places we've always wanted to go. And in a LEGO video game, it's going to allow us to give the better gaming experience that we've ever managed to."

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
