Payday: The Heist will be available as a completely free download on October 16, the title’s developer Overkill Software announced today.

Payday producer Almir Listo announced the giveaway via the Payday 2 Steam community site after the company successfully gained 1.5 million members just prior to the original game’s third anniversary.

“To celebrate that you reached the goal earlier than anticipated, we're giving out PAYDAY: The Heist for free via Steam Thursday morning at 10AM Pacific and going forward for 24 hours,” Listo writes. “This was going to happen on the 18th originally but since you guys did such an awesome job we want to give you the reward as soon as possible.”

As to how exactly Overkill Software will be giving out these free copies of Payday: The Heist is yet unknown as the developer says they will give clear instructions how we'll be able to redeem the game come Thursday. I, for one, will be keeping an eye on how it'll go down as I have yet to play Payday, although I've always heard great things.
