Clockwork Empires update adds murderous cults

If you see a bloody shrine suddenly pop up in the forest, wipe it out in the name of the Queen! Either that, or run!

The world of Clockwork Empires is a dangerous one, indeed. It goes beyond the backbreaking labor that goes into building cities and bringing glory to the Queen and the Empire. There's also that whole thing about strange fishpeople and cannibals. And now there appear to be rumors of murderous cults running about.

The latest update from Gaslamp Games' Lovecraftian city-builder adds in the spine-tingling prospect of cults. Not only will they murder their fellow man and perform blood sacrifices over creepy shrines, but some of them will even transform into horrifying monsters. Though the cultists will likely be armed with large colonial axes, they still must be dealt with and colonists are encourage to purge the land of their dangerous influence.

Other changes include the slew of bug fixes and balance tweaks. There are also a few new animals lurking around the game's biomes, including a giant beetle and junglefowl. Fishpeople will also evolve to carry weaponry and firearms. However, their evolution also means a newfound sense of morale, which means they'll retreat if the battle isn't going their way.

The official patch notes can be found here. Clockwork Empires is available now on Steam Early Access.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
