Minecraft developer founders will not be joining Microsoft aquisition
As rumored, Mojang's founders including Markus 'Notch' Persson will not be joining Microsoft once the company is acquired.
News of Microsoft’s acquisition of Minecraft studio Mojang is just rolling out all over the Internet as the company announced it spent $2.5 billion to acquire the Swedish studio. Prior to the official news, we heard rumors of Markus ‘Notch’ Persson’s possible departure after the deal is done. Now that the news of Mojang’s acquisition has been officially announced, we now know of Persson's future plans, and it won’t be with Microsoft.
In a statement published on Mojang’s website, we learned he has been attempting to work on selling the company due to being overwhelmed by the responsibility of owning such a globally significant organization. “Over the past few years he’s made attempts to work on smaller projects, but the pressure of owning Minecraft became too much for him to handle,” reads the statement. “The only option was to sell Mojang. He’ll continue to do cool stuff though. Don’t worry about that.”
In case that last paragraph wasn’t enough confirmation for you, the statement becomes a bit more blunt as to Notch and the other founders of Mojang’s future endeavors. “The founders: Notch, Carl [Manneh], and Jakob [Porsér] are leaving. We don’t know what they’re planning. It won’t be Minecraft-related but it will probably be cool.”
Persson also published his own statement on his personal site. He said he will be going back to Ludum Dares and making smaller games, and avoiding the spotlight. "If I ever accidentally make something that seems to gain traction, I’ll probably abandon it immediately," he said. "It’s not about the money. It’s about my sanity."

He addresses this notion in his letter. To paraphrase, he said he basically had nothing left to contribute to minecraft as he had completely handed off programming responsibilities for it. He was told to stay around as the cultural leader of the company, but spoke at length around the reasons why he didn't feel like a cultural leader.
