Pikmin movie in the works from Shigeru Miyamoto
The creator of Donkey Kong and other Nintendo classics tries filmmaking for the first time, with a new production based around the Pikmin characters.
Shigeru Miyamoto is taking a brief break from games to work on a video games movie, based on one of his major franchises.
Japanese newsletter Cinra reports that Miyamoto is hard at work on a new movie project featuring the Pikmin characters, called 'Pikmin Short Movie.' He chose to move over to filmmaking for the project since he felt there were still avenues of the game universe that were left to be explored.
The Pikmin Short Movie will be separated into three chapters, including Midnight Juice, The Treasure Inside the Bottle and One Tough Day. It will utilize CG animations, and will also support 3D.
The film will make its debut next month at the Tokyo International Film Festival. There's no word yet if Nintendo will pick up distribution rights for the project after its debut, but considering Miyamoto's popularity, someone's bound to pick it up.
