Capcom offers an optional model for its forthcoming sequel, which will have four episodes in all and focus on Claire Redfield.

So now that Capcom has confirmed Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is on the way, the company has begun revealing bits and pieces about what to expect from the game. But here's an interesting little detail it hasn't mentioned before: it'll be an episodic release.

The company has confirmed that the game will be released at a weekly rate, distributed digitally for each of its consoles. There will be four episodes in all, and Cpacom even went as far as to provide the pricing model, so users can pay however they please, with Claire Redfield leading the charge.

Each individual episode will go for $5.99 each, or $24.99 for the complete season, with access to a little extra content. Those who want to go the full retail route, complete with even more extra content, can pay $39.99. As to what the extra content is, Capcom hasn't revealed that yet. Perhaps a tofu suit?

The game will release next year for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

Ever since (truly) episodic games have caught on, I'm more willing to wait until the last episode comes out before I dive in.

Interesting, and it makes sense. The first RE Revelations was an episodic game as well. Before every chapter, the game showed a "previously on" recap, so Capcom actually designed the game to be played in chunks if the player so desired. The only difference was you got the game in one retail package, whereas this one will be distributed in installments.

I like the model, and I'm glad to see Claire back in the spotlight. Capcom made a mistake when they left her out of RE5. My understanding is the developers introduced Sheva because... well, it wouldn't do to have Chris Redfield, a white guy, running around Africa shooting African-Americans. But partnering Chris with Claire, his sister, would have made more sense; RE Code Veronica was all about Claire and Chris looking for one another, a quest Claire had been on since traveling to Raccoon City in RE2. They reunited near the end of the game--yet there was no follow-up game featuring the brother-sister tag team.

I really hope we get to see Chris and Claire work together in Revelations 2.
