Square Enix introducing game streaming service for smartphones in Japan
With Dive In, gamers overseas can play classic Final Fantasy games, but not much else.
Square Enix is throwing its hat in the streaming game market with the announcement of a new gaming service called Dive In, which will make its debut in Japan next month. With the service, gamers can rent various classic games from the Squeenix library for $1.50-$2.50 for a three-day span, depending on the title.
Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy VII: International Edition and Season of Mystery: The Cherry Blossom Murders will be available when the service launches on October 9th for iOS and Android, while other games, like Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, The Last Remnant and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be added over the next few months. People can rent the titles longer if they prefer, for up to $16 for a whole year's rental via streaming.
There's no word yet if the service will make its way to the U.S., but considering that Square Enix already has a bunch of games available on the iOS front, it could be just a matter of time.
