PSA: Mercedes-Benz cars invade Mario Kart 8 starting today
Wii U owners can also download the original Super Mario Kart as well.
It's the 22nd anniversary of the release of the original Super Mario Kart on SNES. That means two things. Number one, we are soooooo old. Number two, it's time to celebrate with some racing!
Nintendo announced that Mario Kart 8 was getting the classy Mercedes Benz treatment in the US back in June, and that day has finally arrived. The new update for Mario Kart 8 that allows players to race along with three Mercedes-Benz cars in the game, including the modern Mercedes-Benz GLA, the 300 St. Roadcast from the 1950's and the legendary Silver Arrow of the 1930's. Players can choose these cars throughout the game, and also partake in a special Mercedes Cup event, which can be played online.
You'd think that would be enough racing franticness, but in addition to this game's update, Nintendo has released the original Super Mario Kart game for download on the Wii U. You can access it on the eShop for $7.99, and race to your heart's content in either single player or two-player mode.
In case you forgot how good the classic Super Mario Kart was, here's a game clip. Notice Luigi isn't quite so angry here…

I can't believe that's what the SNES Mario Kart really looked like. Did you see how small that map was??
Also, is Koopa Troopa still a character in modern Kart games? I swear I haven't seen him in forever. Or maybe he just looks really different?
Also was it always played in split screen like that with the map on the bottom? -

Really crap reporting from Shack on this one. The optional DLC cars come at the end of the month globally for all regions at the same time. At the same time comes an update to the main game that is more important than what all the sites are reporting.
I don't get it why all sites like Shack and Eurogamer etc chose to put DLC as the main news when the bigger news is that the update brings some vital new things like to have the option to have the map on the tv screen like with older Mario Karts and there's a bunch of other nice new changes that the update brings.
Also from what I understood the Mercedes DLC cars can only be used in single player or local multiplayer, but not online. Online will only have some Mercedes cup during august-september where people can use the DLC cars, which is nice because it's just better that those are for limited use in online special cups.
