At the end of its Nintendo digital event, creative head Shigeru Miyamoto appeared to tease a Star Fox project currently in development for the Wii U.

Polygon reports that Miyamoto showed off the project at an pre-E3 event last night. It's one of three special projects Miyamoto is personally taking on to showcase the GamePad's utility. In the demo, the Arwing fighter could transform into a tank, and players were tasked with keeping track of both the TV and the GamePad screen to navigate while shooting, and using tilt controls. Miyamoto acknowledges that they were showing it in an early state, but said he wanted to show it to motivate the team to "complete the game as quickly as possible."

Awesome. Starfox 64 is probably my favorite N64 game after Mario and the Zeldas.

Slippy is going to die this time and no one save Falco will mourn him.

It hasn't been a very prestigious franchise since the N64 days, hopefully they can bring it back properly. Start by resetting the horrible canon of the last few games.

Yeah, just pretend everything after Starfox 64 didn't happen.

And I reiterate once again, no goddamn on-foot sections for the love of god

Starfox Assault on Gamecube had some decent Arwing levels. Like 3 or 4 I think. Worth picking up for $5.

That's the one I'm referencing; I've got it. Those on foot levels just ruined it though.

Totally. They were just a chore to play. Starfox is definitely due for an epic, 20-level rail shooter.

Will an on-rail shooter really sell nowadays, though? I don't think a brand new Star Fox game that's just an on-rail shooter will make money.

Star Fox 64 wasn't all on rails either, and it had multiple vehicles etc. There's plenty they can do without screwing up the formula.

I loved Starfox and wish they'd just keep motion controls out of it. Just give me an HD Starfox like the old one and I'm set. Tilting the gamepad sounds awful.

Ok, so is this a true full game, or a little mini game thing? I've heard both.
