With Karl Fairburne getting ready to pick up his rifle for a new journey against the Axis powers, developer Rebellion would like to give players the opportunity to catch up with his last adventure. Sniper Elite V2 is currently available on Steam for free for a very limited time: 24 hours only, in fact.

Sniper Elite V2 (regularly valued at $29.99) puts players in the role of the American sniper Fairburne during the Germans' last stand. The game touts an improved X-Ray kill cam, as Fairburne must use stealth in order to take aim and blow away Nazis with the utmost precision. DLC packs like Kill Hitler, however, will remain at their full price.

This free offer from Steam will only last until June 5 at 10AM PDT and should tide Sniper fans over until Sniper Elite 3 arrives next month. For more on the latter game, check out our most recent preview.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Does the game stay in your library after that 24 hours is up or does it disappear?

It drops down to a group below your library after the promotion. The files remain on your hard drive so that if you later buy the game it doesn't have to redownload anything. The license is added to your account and the listing simply moves up into your library like normal.

Never played any of the Sniper Elite games including the nazi zombie stuff, but I sure can appreciate free stuff and therefore grabbed it. Thank you!

Grabbed it and played through the first mission. Controls seem a little wonky but it's kinda fun. I'll have to give it a bit more time to get used to the controls

Got it. TBH I wasn't real interested in this game but you can't argue with free! I'll give it a go and see if it's any good.

If it's anything like their Nazi Zombie Army, it is worth EVERY penny.

That's a pretty awesome way to promote their upcoming game.

Damn. I picked it up as an impulse buy a while back when it was on sale but I haven't even touched it yet. Could have waited and gotten it free apparently! Oh well. Someday I'll get to my backlog...
