Twitter, HBO and other apps coming to Xbox One

Over 40 new apps will debut on the Xbox One this year.

While Microsoft is set to announce a bunch of new game projects for the Xbox One next week, it appears it'll get its fair share of applications later this year. The company confirmed that Twitter, HBO GO and over 40 additional apps will make their way to the console by the end of the holiday season.

Twitter will take a new approach with the system, as it will be "directly integrated" with the console's interface, as shown in the photo above. This will make it easier to live comment on TV programs, game broadcasts and more, where users can keep an eye on how social things get.

Major League Gaming's app will also play a huge part, as it will bring live broadcasts and MLG news directly to users who log in.

"Today as we announce new commitments from dozens of our partners, including deep integration with experiences like Twitter and Vine, we hit an important milestone in our journey to deliver unique experiences on Xbox," said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of devices and studios. "We're thrilled to break new ground in social TV experiences like we're doing with Twitter on Xbox One."

Meanwhile, on PS4, we still don't have YouTube or HBO Go.

Buuuut we have apps related to baseball, hockey, and some other random media apps outside of the regulars =/

Thats honestly what is stopping me from buying a ps4. I use my console more often as a media device than gaming so the media apps are a big thing for me.

Because not everyone is going to buy a Kinect for their 360 especially not at this point in its life.

I think because the Xbox One included the 1080p capable Kinect, and it uses some of that camera's wizardry to follow you around in software.

Looks like it's really integrated into the One Guide and Live TV aspects of the console.

The snapped app is where it's at. Nobody in their right mind would ever use a console as a standalone Twitter client, but using it as a widget in a corner is actually a pretty neat idea, provided it doesn't eat too much real estate.

Tweeting pictures from the console might be a pretty good idea.
