Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is debuting some interesting additions to the series, like the new moon setting and the oxygen system that comes from it. But let's not forget that, first and foremost, the Pre-Sequel is Handsome Jack's story and the self-aggrandizing scoundrel is sure to remind you of that in the game's latest trailer, which released earlier this week.

"Jack kind of, more or less, comes out of nowhere," writer Maurice Suckling told IGN. "You don’t really know what happened to put him in this place. One of the targets for the Pre-Sequel is to put him on this curve and see where it is that he's come from and why he is who he is... People know the jerk Jack, but they haven't seen where he's come from, so that just feels like a tremendously rich, fertile plain to dive into."

The trailer below will remind you of just what an egotistical scumbag Handsome Jack can be. His story will unfold when Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel hits PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 this fall.

  honest question: Does anyone want to play as Jack? Not game mechanics wise, more feelings about the character.

    Yeah. I loved the story and Jack is one of my favorite antagonists of all time. Being him? I don't know. Doesn't make much sense.

  The writing for BL2 and this is fantastic. Edgy, juvenile humor.....just the way I like it.

    I liked BL2's writing too but you know nothing about the writing for BL: Presequel. Just because they are in the same series and likely the same flavor of style does not mean that the quality is consistent. I don't even think Anthony Burch is penning this one.
