Valve delays Steam Controller to 2015

Valve's Eric Hope says that because of the amount of feedback and improvements, the Steam Controller will "realistically" launch in 2015, rather than 2014 as originally anticipated.

Valve recently made some major updates to its Steam Controller, and now it appears the device will likely be delayed into 2015. Valve's Eric Hope said that the feedback from playtests is providing a flurry of useful feedback, but taking all that into account and making the necessary improvements will take longer than anticipated.

"We're now using wireless prototype controllers to conduct live playtests, with everyone from industry professionals to die-hard gamers to casual gamers," Hope said (via Polygon). "It's generating a ton of useful feedback, and it means we'll be able to make the controller a lot better. Of course, it's also keeping us pretty busy making all those improvements. Realistically, we're now looking at a release window of 2015, not 2014.

"Obviously we're just as eager as you are to get a Steam Machine in your hands. But our number one priority is making sure that when you do, you'll be getting the best gaming experience possible. We hope you'll be patient with us while we get there."

Valve announced the Steam Controller last year, as part of its push into hardware with Steam Machines and its own SteamOS. The original prototype had touchpads and a touchscreen, but the updated version debuted in March replaced the touchscreen with more a more traditional button layout.

Clearly they're doing this so they can release it along with the Fuscia Box containing HL3, L4D3 and Gordon Freeman Presents MATH BLASTER 2015.

I might just pay serious money for that version of Math Blaster.

How many headcrabs can Gordon kill in one minute if it takes 20 seconds to kill one headcrab?

They weren't ever going to make the 2014 date they set out to go for.

This is ok. It gives them time to make sure it's got better support.

They have to delay it because HL3 isn't ready yet. They're going to throw in a free copy of HL3 with every controller they sell. 2015 is gonna be an awesome year.
