Final Fantasy 11 May update detailed
Final Fantasy 11 is getting a large May update that adds a ton of late-game content, and raises the level cap to 99.
Final Fantasy 14 has turned out to be a surprise hit, but Square Enix isn't neglecting its other franchise MMO. The company has revealed the full list of changes coming to the May update to Final Fantasy 11, and it's pretty massive.
The patch notes (via IGN) detail a lot of new late-game content, which only makes sense for a game that's now a decade old. It includes new Seekers of Adoulin missions, high-tier mission battlefields, and the cap raised to the whopping level 99.

What prevented me from ever coming back was not the game itself. It was Square Enix.
If you are inactive for 6 months, they not only delete your account but make your serial null and void forcing you to buy the game again.
God forbid you get deployed somewhere in the military preventing you from playing. Luckily I was able to get on EVERY OTHER MMO ACCOUNT OF MINE with not only my account still accessible but my character exactly where I last left him.
