Nintendo's launching a new console next year. However, it's not targeted for American release. Instead, the company is pursuing "emerging markets," aiming to capitalize on "a growing middle class" in markets like China. The hardware and the games released on said platform would be oriented towards consumers with lower incomes and "less gaming experience."
"It would be difficult to enter those markets if we didn't create something new... For the mass market you need to provide something that most of the middle class can afford," Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told Reuters (via Gamespot). As a result, neither Wii U or 3DS will be released in these markets.
A new console could be based upon existing Nintendo hardware. For example, Nintendo partnered with Wei Yen to release the iQue in China, a variant of the Nintendo 64. But one thing is clear: Nintendo isn't following the footsteps of Microsoft, who plans on releasing Xbox One in China. "We think the Chinese market has a lot of potential, but I don't think the lifting of the ban has solved all of the difficulties in entering it. We need to study it more," Iwata said.

Silly Nintendo.
I guess they didn't get the memo. Companies in the U.S. stay viable by sucking off our "fair share" facist government.
If I had a choice as a company, I would do everything I could to avoid the absolutely fickle Socialist U.S., and the crazed mob society that they've created. At any point they can and have decided to snatch entire companies and all their assets.
Good luck in those 'emerging markets'-

Didn't see that coming at all, Rauol.
I read that News post and it struck me that we are about to be passed by China as the largest economy, and Nintendo is deciding to target their next console, actually not even selling it here, at that market. That would be kind of freaking insane a few years ago.
If I had actually said anything newsletter crazy, I might feel bad about your responses. I am actually talking from past and current experience, having to deal with all this fair share/mincome-maxcome bullshit.
But... I did happen to read this on shacknews and post here, so I'm not really surprised by the knee-jerk stupid.

Yeah, I know we don't yet.
I do know that the executive branch has stated their desire for a 100% tax over $500,000 and they are trying to up the minimum wage dramatically, which only gets unskilled laborers fired and increases the cost of living, and Nintendo is already hurting. It might seem like a bad idea to spend money pushing hardware in a country that is, for all intents and purposes, being run by regulatory and executive fiat. All of the Debby Downer on our economy is political, and I was saying that if I were making the calls for a company as big as Nintendo, I would honestly be thinking twice about if it would be worth it to push out a new console in the U.S. right now.
"Fascism" and "Socialism" have actual definitions. They're real, and legitimate (if not destructive) economic models, they aren't just four letter insults. Those who are calling the major shots right now aren't very shy about stating their purposes either.
It might be a moot point anyway, because who knows why they're only marketing in China. I read this story right after I got done reading about China passing us up as the largest economy sooner than was expected.
*Shrugs* I might be wrong about some, or all, of my assessments, but nothing I said was off the wall crazy.
