After lingering on Xbox Live Arcade for the past few years, the Bydo Empire will soon be nesting on the PlayStation Network. Prepare yourself, "shmup" fans, for R-Type Dimensions on PlayStation 3.

In Tozal Games' remix of the popular arcade series, two of the first chapters, R-Type and R-Type II, will be making their way to PSN in all their arcade splendor. But that's not all. In addition to the regular versions, you can also play either game with high-definition visuals, adding a new sheen that makes everything look even better. New audio is available as well, in case you want remixes of those classic R-Type audio tracks.

Players will be able to switch between both views at any time, and, once unlocked, even play with a pseudo-3D view where the enemies are coming right at you on a diagonal scale! Features also include Infinite Mode and Level Select and you can even earn a few Trophies for your trouble.

R-Type Dimensions will arrive on PlayStation 3 on May 20th. There's no word yet on pricing, but given that the Xbox Live Arcade version is $9.99, it should be around that range.
