As previously teased, the next Tony Hawk game is made for mobile. Tony Hawk's Shred Session is a brand new game developed by UK studio Big Bit. Planned for a soft launch later this summer, players will tap and swipe fingers on the screen to perform tricks. Leveling up will unlock more advanced tricks for players to string together into Tony Hawk-style combos.
The game will launch with two modes: Survival will have players trying to pull off continuous tricks for as long as they can; Shred Sessions will have players try to complete "classic Tony Hawk game objectives" while trying to get the highest score.
In addition to Tony Hawk, the game will include five other pro skaters: Chris Cole, Aaron "Jaws" Homoki, Lizzie Armanto, David Gonzalez, and Riley Hawk. Each rider can be customized with real-world apparel and skate decks. Given it's free-to-play, don't be surprised to see monetization come into play here. Levels include real-world locales like Santa Monica, California and London.
"I'm stoked that Activision shares my vision for an original skateboarding game on mobile," Tony Hawk said in the announcement. "It's exciting to evolve with new technologies, and Shred Session is a whole new direction."
Touch Arcade got an early hands-on with the game, and says that the animations are "off the chain," which gives the game an appreciably authentic feel. Check out their video preview to see the game in action:
