Ghost Recon Phantoms getting new features for launch
Ubisoft will add some new tweaks to Ghost Recon Phantoms (formerly Ghost Recon Online) in time for its Steam release on April 10, including new matchmaking tweaks and a new weapon customization system.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms is getting more than a name change for its upcoming Steam release. Ubisoft Singapore is also planning on adding some significant tweaks to the former Ghost Recon Online, including adjustments to the game's matchmaking and a new weapon customization system.
Newcomers won't have to feel quite as intimidated anymore, as lead designer Simon Davis revealed that novices will remain in the newbie playlist until level 8, instead of level 5. This gives new players more time to acclimate themselves to the game before jumping in against more skilled players, who will all be matched up based on skill and gear. The tier system has also been overhauled, reducing the number of tiers from nine to seven.
Davis then details the new ModMaster customization system, which allows players to adjust guns to suit their style by adjusting barrels, scopes, and camo patterns. Phantoms will launch with ten different camo patterns, with more to be added later.
Unfortunately, not everything will be ready for April 10. Davis notes that tactical inserts and smoke grenades are being postponed for additional testing.
Davis also emphasizes that Ghost Recon Phantoms will remain free when it releases on Steam. For more on what to expect, check out the trailer below.
