Tropico 5 starts out in early colonial times, which may raise the question of what El Presidente was doing in the heady days of forging the New World. A new trailer gives us that answer, with a generous dose of Pirates of the Caribbean.

The cinematic trailer shows El Presidente's days as a pirate, and even directly lifts a famous exchange from Jack Sparrow's adventures in those Disney movies. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all. Tropico 5 is set to launch this summer, with new tech trees, rampant nepotism, and cooperative and competitive multiplayer. Beta registrations recently opened up too.
