Ken Kutaragi, best known as the "Father of the PlayStation," received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Game Developers Choice Awards last week in San Francisco. Having worked on the sound chip within the SNES, he later became lead engineer of the original PlayStation, the first video game console to sell over 100 million units. Its successor, the PlayStation 2, ended up becoming the best-selling console of all time.

He became an Honorory Chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment in 2007. By receiving the award, he joins an esteemed list of gaming visionaries, including Mark Cerny, Doug Lombardi, and Chris Charla. He also was able to participate in a Mega64 video that pays tribute to his career.

While described as "based on a true story," it appears the comedy troupe may be taking some liberties. However, given Kutaragi's starring role in the film, it clearly received his stamp of approval.
