Sony producing 'Powers' series for PlayStation Network
Sony is reportedly developing original TV programming to air on PlayStation Network, starting with an adaptation of the graphic novel series Powers.
PlayStation Network is reportedly getting into the original TV programming business, starting with an adaptation of the graphic novel series Powers. Sony Pictures Television will produce 10 episodes, which will be then be broadcast on PSN. Long-term, Sony is said to be developing a paid TV service that will be available individually, once it has enough content to support such a venture.
Variety reports that Sony is partnering with production company Circle of Confusion. The series had originally been developed for FX. Powers is a police procedural that follows two cops as they investigate crimes committed by superpowered criminals.
This move seems similar to Microsoft's plan to offer original programming through Xbox Live, with announced shows like a Halo series and a documentary about the graveyard of Atari E.T. cartridges.
