Google Play expanding to allow iOS/Android cross-platform multiplayer
Google has announced plans to expand its Google Play gaming service to allow cross-platform play. This and several other features are said to be on their way to developers in the coming weeks.
Google has announced plans to update its Google Play Games service to allow cross-platform play between iOS and Android users. In conjunction with the Game Developers Conference, the company announced this among a new suite of features coming over the next few weeks.
A blog post (via IGN) details the new features. The headliner feature is the expanded multiplayer support on iOS, allowing turn-based and real-time multiplayer across the two. Other features to roll out in the coming weeks include game gifts, which will let developers facilitate trades of in-game items between players, increased analytics tools, and more more targeted advertisement tools. The blog didn't detail exactly when these features will become available, but it may take some time for developers to start taking advantage of them afterwards.
