Shovel Knight's path towards a March 31 release date has been dealt a major blow, with all the trauma of a strike to the head from some sort of blunt gardening tool. Developer Yacht Club Games has announced that the retro-style platformer will miss its expected release date by a few weeks.
"This update is to let everyone know that Shovel Knight will be missing March 31 by a few weeks to make sure it's a world class experience, and can release on all platforms simultaneously," the developer stated on the Shovel Knight Kickstarter page. "This isn't a major delay, or a long one; it's simply a stretch of time to get everything polished and aligned. While major development is quickly drawing to a close, there are still some external factors, like submission preparation, which need a little bit more breathing room before the game goes live."
Yacht Club is putting the finishing touches on dialogue, scripted events, level design, and overall game balancing before Shovel Knight undergoes a final bout of testing across all platforms. A new release date has not been announced, with the developer citing some final conversations with Steam and Nintendo.
As soon as it's ready, the game will arrive on PC, Wii U, and 3DS.
