Nintendo opens 3DS and Wii U eShop hub for indies
Nintendo has opened an online hub for indie titles, raising visibility for what it boasts compose more than 1,000 indies available through 3DS and Wii U.
Nintendo has been low-key about its indie in-roads, but a new move from the company signals a more public push into the market. It has opened a dedicated online hub to indie titles on its eShops, highlighting a few of the more than 1,000 indie games published on 3DS and Wii U.
The hub features a few selections like SteamWorld Dig and Cave Story, and directs viewers to the full eShop for more.
This follows comments made last year by Nintendo of America's Dan Adelman, manager of business development licensing. He said that indies are a "top priority" for the company, but conceded that it needed to work on more visibility. He also hinted at long-term plans to make games purchasable through the web or mobile devices.
"We really want to make it as close to frictionless as possible, [with a] really low cost of entry and a really smooth process. We've still got a ways to go. We're a large company with a large bureaucracy. I think our priorities right now are to just really educate those development partners that it's to easier than ever before to make games for Nintendo platforms."
