Nintendo has shook up some of its classic NES games in a compilation named NES Remix, which either smooshes several together ("mashes them up," in the vernacular) or changes them for cheeky challenges. In a fine feat of secret-keeping, it was only announced this morning and is already to download on Wii U for $14.99.

NES Remix takes a dozen vintage games to the remixatron: Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Ballon Fight, Excitebike, Ice Climber, Golf, Clu Clu Land, Wrecking Crew, Donkey Kong Jr., Pin Ball, Donkey Kong 3, Base Ball, Urban Champion, and Tennis.

Some of the remixes are simple challenges set on snippets lifted from the original games, such as completing levels in a set time or defeating enemies a certain way, while others make things more difficult or are a bit cross-over-y. You'll find Link hurdling Donkey Kong's barrels, for example.
