Double Fine has reacquired the publishing and distribution rights to both Costume Quest and Stacking, the studio announced today. It will be partnering with Nordic Games to bring PC and Mac retail releases of Costume Quest, Stacking, and Psychonauts in the first half of 2014.
Nordic Games had previously acquired the distribution rights to the two games when THQ sold off its properties. Double Fine expressed interest in reacquiring the rights in May. This will mark the first retail releases for those two, and the first time Psychonauts has been available at retail in quite a while.
"I am pleased that we have regained full control over Costume Quest and Stacking, following a daring and top-secret midnight raid on the Nordic Games headquarters in Vienna," Double Fine CEO Tim Schafer said in the announcement.
Nordic CEO Lars Wingefors noted that they're "happy to transfer distribution rights for Costume Quest and Stacking back to Double Fine in an entirely non-secretive and heist-free manner."
