Xbox One SmartGlass app now available to download

Xbox One may not be available until this Friday, but that doesn't mean you can't pretend to own one. You can get your mind and body ready for Microsoft's new console by downloading the SmartGlass companion app to your phone now.

"Xbox One SmartGlass is the perfect companion app for your Xbox One, both in your living room and on the go. Connect and control your Xbox One. Stay connected with the games and gamers you like. Add a new dimension to your console entertainment with the mobile device you already own," Microsoft's promo text reads.

When you're connected to Xbox One, you'll be able to use your SmartGlass device as a remote control. You can also use it as a keyboard using the touch screen. And, this new Xbox One app promises "increased performance with faster connections and reliability" over the old Xbox 360 app.

When you're not connected to Xbox One, you'll still be able to find content to send to your Xbox One console. You'll also be able to track achievements and message Xbox Live friends. Crucially, you can even watch game DVR clips. Perhaps some of your favorite video game journalists already have some available to view?

You can download the app now on Android, Windows Phone, Windows 8. An iOS version has also been submitted to Apple.
