You can now join the beta for the game formerly known as Blizzard DOTA. Heroes of the Storm will have you playing as various heroes from Blizzard's various franchises. "Thrall, Kerrigan, Diablo, Arthas, Zeratul, Tyrael—they're all here and ready to test their might in the forge of eternal combat. Who will stand with you in battle? Select your favorites from more than 20 years of Blizzard games," Blizzard teased in today's announce.

Blizzard was smart to avoid the traditional DotA map and other MOBA staples like the item shop. I always wondered how they expected to be able to compete with an established juggernaut like League of Legends (much less LoL + DotA2 at the same time), and the answer is simple: they aren't going to try. They're going to do their thing and build their own audience.
Also, some of those custom skins they showed off were killer... Judgment set for Uther? Yes please!!-
Yes the game does not have items and that's probably by design. Your skills will scale up as you level.
Yes "stiches" the pudge person plays similarly but he can't dominate.
The hook is a vector skill shot, then he has a aoe come stomp, but he doesn't have a devour lvl6 type spell all it does is a big aoe.
