Diablo 3 hits 14 million sales

Diablo III has topped 14 million sales, which means that it moved 2 million units since the start of 2013. Blizzard credited the console launches, but didn't mention exactly how many of that 2 million figure was from them.

Diablo III has topped 14 million sales, Activision Blizzard has revealed. It noted that the PC version decreased in sales from its initial boom, but that effect had been partially offset by the September launch of console ports.

The sales came from the company's latest investors' conference call (via Joystiq). Blizzard didn't reveal just how much of the sales came from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, but we know that it had moved 12 million as of the start of this year. That means the console versions sold somewhere under two million during the two months it was available in this quarter, minus whatever the PC and Mac versions sold since the start of 2013. Still, the console ports were specifically mentioned as a boon to overall sales this year, so it must have been a significant chunk.

The Reaper of Souls expansion is slated to hit the console versions as well, including the upcoming PlayStation 4 port. Between another platform launch and the first major expansion, we'll probably be hearing more about its sales around this time next year.

Steve Watts posted a new article, Diablo 3 hits 14 million sales.

Diablo III has topped 14 million sales, which means that it moved 4 million sales in the past year. Blizzard credited the console launches, but didn't mention exactly how many of that 4 million figure was from them.

I would have been first in line to purchase this game 10 years ago. not at all interested today but may buy it at some point if it's deeply discounted. honestly Torchlight scratched that particular itch so I see no need in getting. Wish Blizzard would use it's talent to not rehash the same games over and over again. didnt get Starcraft2 for the same reasons

I'm sure they're desperately missing your sale. 14,000,000 is just meh but 14,000,001 is the real sweet spot.

Well if that's what matters...you could pay $0 for Path of Exile and get a much more customizable game. The skills in Torchlight were so boring, with hardly any choices to make.

no, I'm saying that at $5 it was worth buying a game whose gameplay I wasnt all that interested even though I would have been 10 years ago

PoE just didn't hold my attention. I don't care for customizeable characters as much as I do FUN gameplay. D3's builds offer plenty of variety for me. PoE's are simply an overwhelming mess.

Not really - or at least not in T2. Lots of interesting builds available.

                Terminator 2?

Pretty sure I played some Torchlight 2 and the builds sucked. Oh well.

This thread is 4 days old, what are you doing here?

Well when I played T2 it was boring. Like 10 skills to choose from? Add a point, gain a little damage. Get to the top level and it gets a bigger boost? Blech.

And a lot of the criticisms of Diablo 3 centered around it NOT being like Diablo 2

Just wondering. I bought it at launch and didn't hold my interest after the first two weeks. I played Diablo 1 and 2 for years. It made me sad in the pants. I'm glad you enjoyed it though.

I got it for PS3 and I loved it, but I ended up trading it in before finishing it so I could get a good amount back. I'm planning on buying the PS4 version when released.

I wonder what percentage of that 14 million they would consider a success for the expansion. 50%? There must be some standards for that sort of thing. I personally won't be buying it. Pretty much done with Blizzard at this point.
