Check your inbox, Xbox folks. Microsoft may have dropped a nice surprise for you over the evening. The company has been giving away free copies of Killer Instinct for Xbox One giving dedicated fans a fully unlocked version of the free-to-play fighter. Of course, these fans will have to pick up an Xbox One to play the game, so it's a rather brilliant move on Microsoft's part to ensure Xbox One purchases.

The email can be seen here. According to @Xbox, "a variety of factors" were considered for the reward, including Gamerscore and Xbox Live tenure.

Perhaps the most surprising bonus: some fans will actually get free Xbox One consoles--no Doritos necessary! Congrats to those of you that were randomly awarded the swag.

    Bleh, I totally feel crappy now. Just realized my xbox contact email (which is separate from the billing email) was set to my old university email address which has been deactivated. Hope I didn't miss out on a free KI or Xbone. :(

      I'm in the same boat, my contact email was set to an old email that I don't have access to anymore. Finally changed it today after being on the phone for over an hour. Been with XBL since 2002 and a gamerscore approaching 70K and nothing.

        I actually saw a picture of the email on some other site and it mentions they are gonna send out additional reminder emails on launch day. Hopefully we'll be among the lucky ones!

  Apparently this was for people who were signed up for Xbox Rewards if the rumors I'm seeing are true. I've seen at least one other person who got an Xbox One and all the launch games from this.

  Looks like my dedication paid off. Got my free xbox one email this afternoon. Kudos to Microsoft for rewarding the dedicated gamers out there. And congrats to anyone else whos won.

    100k+ GS here and no free xbox, so if there is a GS criteria it's very high.

    99k GS, been with Rewards since it started, my current gamertag is current from 360 launch. I've done several beta dashboard releases etc, but other than that I can't think of any other criteria.

    Another website had mentioned a required gamerscore of at least 75,000. After that though it might just be random. My score is 109,302 and I got Killer Instinct. I don't plan on getting a Xbox One, at least not any time soon, but it says the code is tied to my gamertag so I cannot give the game away.
