Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning may be shutting down in December, but developer Mythic plans to go out with a bang. Everyone who's ever had an account for the MMORPG (well, an account in good standing) is invited to return for the final month without paying a penny.

Subscription fees are now scrapped, and signups are closed so only current accounts can play.
"We will be adding new NPC's to the game in order to power up your characters as well as other unique experiences for everyone to enjoy as we say goodbye to Warhammer Online over the next few weeks," Mythic explains in a blog post. "So please join us and help say goodbye to Warhammer Online in one last big WAAAGH!"
The game is due to shut down on December 18, having run for five years, when EA's license from Warhammer creator Games Workshop will run out. "I don't think any of its critics would ever call it boring," producer Carrie Gouskos said when Mythic announced the end. "It struck out boldly, and some of the game's novel features are now considered industry standard for MMOs."
