Ever since taking the franchise 2D, Ubisoft has turned its Rayman series into glorious cartoon showcases. Rayman Legends was a tremendous success (critically, anyway), as was last year's Jungle Run--a mobile endless-runner that won Best iPhone Game from Apple.

Why not just make it a full-fledged side-scroller? There are other games (Sonic) that have worked really well with this scheme. When playing jungle run I found it hard to believe that it couldn't easily translate into a traditional scroller. It felt limiting to only be able to run in a single direction.
