Ubisoft Blue Byte continues to push forward with its slew of free-to-play Flash-based browser games. Weeks after announcing betas for Silent Hunter Online, Anno Online, and Tom Clancy's EndWar Online, the developer has released a closed beta for its browser-based WWII tank combat game, Panzer General Online.

The turn-based Panzer General Online puts players on battlefields inspired by WWII skirmishes, like Monte Casino and the Battle of the Bulge, where they'll go at it with tanks and with special trading cards. Cards will represent infantry, tanks, and artillery, as well as actions, such as air strikes and other special tactics. Players will be able to explore both the single-player campaign, as well as multiplayer battles.

Those looking to register for the closed beta can sign up on the Panzer General Online website.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Super bummed that they couldn't just release a new version of this famous and great game. Browser-based, microtransaction crap = lame.

      Still, it's better than nothing, I suppose...sigh.

Battle Worlds Kronos still looks pretty cool IMO.

But I'll sell you a panzer IV for 150 stars!!!

Seriously I want a classic turn based Panzer General along the lines of two.

I don't click links to free online games unless it comes with a almost naked chick calling me "lord".

More seriously, that looks really neat. Never tried any of the panzer general games so this could be a cool thing to check out on a rainy weekend.

It's fun, but definitely lost the epic feel of the original game. It feels more like a Magic - The Gathering game, then the hardcore strategy game from SSI.

I played the first two campaigns and am now struggeling with the third. You have to pay a lot of attention to your deck and which cards / units you combine. Every Unitcard can bring up to three Turncards to a battle, bring to many cards and you have a good chance to have doubles or a bad selection on your first turn. Bring too many big cards that require elite stars and you might not be able to play a card on a turn and need to reshuffle. So, the game is mostly deck building, buying booster packs and grinding coin for more booster packs.

Still, give it a try if you like WW2 Armies and Magic-type Card games.
