Avadon 2 bringing classic roleplaying to PC and Mac on October 30
"Why don't they make RPGs like they used to?" you grumble and groan, reading about one of these so-called 'new video games.' They do, of course, and in the case of Spiderweb Software, they never stopped--it's been making them since 1994. The developer has announced its latest, Avadon 2: The Corruption, will launch for PC and Mac on October 30.

Avadon 2 is the second part of a planned trilogy, though Spiderweb says it's fine if you missed the first. It slips you into the jerkin of a spy and warrior of Avadon, defending your homeland against a mysterious threat. Or switching sides to topple Avadon. Like ye olde RPGs, it has oodles of story branches, endings, items, quests, skills, and all that.
Spiderweb plans to launch in iPad version early in 2014. Hit the official site for more info.

Spiderweb's RPGs are great. They may not look like much, but they're quality.
And the two are related, you know. Old school gameplay and graphics. As graphics have advanced, the cost of making games has skyrocketed, so publishers try to target an ever wider, more "mainstream" audience to make all that money back.
I hate it as much as anyone, but it might just not be economically feasible to spend the kind of money you need for cutting edge AAA production values on a game targeted to a relatively niche audience. People always point to the Witcher series, but those guys are from Poland where everything is a lot cheaper than it is in the US.-
Heck, probably 90% of my game purchases nowadays are either niche brands, classic games or indie developers...or I wait until the PC version is dirt cheap.
The only AAA titles i picked up the last 4-5 months are Madden and GTAV however I've also bought probably a couple dozen games through GOG and the bundle deals.
I think watch dogs is one of the only major developer games I'm waiting for.
