The PlayStation Vita TV is only announced for Japan so far, though Sony has issued some cheeky hints about it coming westward. Apparently, Sony was surprised to find a strong response in the west, which may explain why it initially only announced the device for Japan.

Sony Japan exec Masayasu Ito told Eurogamer that the response had been "strong... more than we expected."

Ito said that "of course" the company is considering launching in the US and Europe, but added some caveats. "When it comes to the timing, we'll have to watch the environment and identify what other services are available in the US and Europe and whether we'll have to add other services. We'll have to look at all of this before deciding on a launch in Europe and the United States."

Sony Computer Entertainment head Andrew House also said, in a separate interview with Eurogamer, that the company chose to launch in Japan first because the market is so bare for TV streaming boxes. He said Japan is "a little behind the adoption curve," which opened up the door for them to stake their claim as a market leader.

The west, by comparison, already has several competing streaming boxes, which makes Sony a little more hesitant. House said that the Vita TV capabilities are "already part and parcel of how consumers view media there." That said, he noted the response has been "very, very positive" and that the company is feeling "very encouraged." Very, you guys.
