Where's My Water 2 launches, is free-to-play
Disney's Where's My Water? has finally gotten a sequel, as a free-to-play app that launched today.
Disney found an unexpected hit with Where's My Water? The game and its many spin-offs have consistently hit high numbers in mobile game charts. Today, Disney is readying a full-fledged sequel, transforming its mobile hit into a free-to-play game.
The sequel still revolves around physics-based challenges in which you guide a stream of water to through pipes, but the stages aren't as distinct as they once were. Whereas the original had you choose between Swampy, Cranky, and Allie--each with their own level types--this one mixes the level types together to give more variety. Meanwhile, the new Duck Rush mode accentuates quicker decision making.
The sequel adds power-ups as in-app purchases, hence the F2P model. Kotaku has already lamented the energy mechanic that limits play, claiming it doesn't work for a game so heavily based in trial-and-error.
Where's My Water? 2 is now available on the App Store, and will be hitting Windows and Android marketplaces soon.

oh i agree, i'd rather pay one fee than what we have, but in candy crushes case, i am patient enough to just play it once or twice a day. i don't see that happening with WMW2 though, because candy crush is a fun mindless diversion, and WMW2 is an action puzzle game dependent on trial and error sometimes.

Isn't it funny that we'd rather pay up front than for a "free" app like this? I'm in the same boat. I'd have instant-purchased this if it were even $3-., Because it's F2P with a garbage model like this, I will just download it simply so I can give it a 1 star / review, then uninstall.
My vote is that free apps with ridiculous in-app purchases cannot be labeled as "free" in the store either.

For those curious, here's the F2P in-game price breakdon:
Starter Bundle: $2.99
5 vacuum ducks (ducks pull nearby water to them)
5 hints (hints on beating the level)
Monster Bundle: $9.99
10 vacuum ducks
10 Hints
10 Absorbers (ducks are more resilient against bad fluids)
10 Droppers (ducks fill to 4 drops, requiring only one drop)
Energy Increase: $16.99
Larger Energy Bar (play more often)
Also note that these bonuses do not carry over, so if you have to reset a level after failing, you lose that bonus you used during that level. I used one of the "first taste is free" supplied bonuses for a level and had to reset it, losing that bonus.
As much as I enjoyed Where's My Water?, I was more than happy to pay a buck or two for the game and its additional levels, but I'm not paying these prices just for some ridiculous little temporary boost in-game. I'll put up with the F2P Energy limitation simply because I enjoy the mechanics of the game, but overall I'm not happy with their money-scheming structure in this game.-

I've discovered a major downside I've discovered in the "Energy to play" aspect of the game which might actually kill any replayability I'd hoped for. Energy counts towards each individual run at a level. In the original WMW?, trial and error is how you learn to solve a level, which often takes multiple runs to understand the physics of a particular level and such. With the Energy counting towards the levels, you could start to finally get the hang of it, and *boom* you're out of Energy and have to wait, which kills the momentum you've built in solving the level. This may be a game killer for me, as one wrong move in a level wastes an Energy. I'd rather put up with shitty ads than this ridiculous Energy system.
