Diablo 3 '2.0' patch to accompany Reaper of Souls

Diablo 3's "Reaper of Souls" expansion will come alongside a new patch adding the underlying system changes, like new item and gem types, the smart drop system, and so on.

The Diablo 3 is getting a visit from the Reaper of Souls, but you'll still have something to look forward to even if you're not grabbing the expansion. Blizzard is planning on a large-scale "2.0" patch to accompany it, which tweaks core gameplay systems for all players.

Lead content designer Kevin Martens outlined all the free bits to PC Gamer. "You're going to get all the loot, you're going to get all the new item types, you're going to get all the new legendary affixes, you're going to get our new gem type--which is the diamond--and you're going to get all the changes to the rules, the smart drop system, the targeted drop system, probably you'll get loot runs--we haven't figured that one out yet--probably you'll get paragon, etc, etc.”

That means Reaper of Souls will be required to access new content, like act five, the new level cap, new runes, and so on. However, underlying system changes to the game's rules will go out to everybody. There's no word on when this will be ready, however.

And now they even adopt WoW's patch system for Diablo.... How blatant can they get ;p

Oh, and of course, a new level cap... Didn't know that yet about the expansion. So you make a game that's focused on endgame grinding and then make all the gear you acquired for that pointless. For WoW it might work, but this is Diablo....

Lord of Destruction didn't need a level cap increase but it still introduced new challenges and new items. I don't see why Diablo 3 needs to get all WoW with this.... Or has already gotten.... Bleh. I regret buying it to be honest :/

You can't really compare the two because the level cap in D2 was "unattainable" compared to the super fast leveling in D3. And I was barely using any gear from vanilla D2 once LoD came out either.

Also I remember that LOD rebalanced everything so my act 2 Hell pre-LOD character had to go back to act 3 nightmare if she wanted to live for than a few seconds.

how did LoD not do the same thing anyway? The level cap didn't go up but the new uniques and runewords essentially invalidated most of the D2 Classic gear you had (while some of the good remnants were patched out like dual leech rings)

"WoW patch system" - this is how Blizzard has done it for other games than WoW. What exactly do you propose they patch like to support people who did NOT purchase the expansion, and not segregate the playerbase?

Yes, Blizzard created the software version numbering system. No one else has ever named version 2.0 of their software "2.0" before.

Well of course. It's a great patching method.

Is this the patch that makes Diablo 3 fun?

Haha, are you surprised - honestly? They said PvP would be in BEFORE the end of 2012. They even said it was certain.

And where are we now? Well, they recently said they don't think PvP will be released with RoS. That's some bullshit for you.

Fool me once, shame on you Blizzard. Fool me twice, shame on me.. I won't be making the mistake of buying this on day one like I did before.

            Not really :/

PvP I can see.. they are trying to build some new mode for that.. can't just go back to D2 days.. join a custom game and beat the shit out of people bc.. no custom games and no 8 player per game.

Blizzard, don't talk to me about your upcoming games unless you attach a release date thats less than 6 months out to it.

Man, they must have done something amazing with their console game to be having PC players asking for controller support.

Yeah. To me, asking for controller support for a hack-n-slash game is like asking for joystick support for a RTS.

I might actually pick the game up if i could use a controller, or even WASD to move around. I hate point and click type controls.

I still think I could actually enjoy DOTA-type games if only you could play with a controller for movement + buttons for skills.
