The 1980s Amiga classic Shadow of the Beast is receiving a surprise revival on PS4. Developer Heavy Spectrum has taken on the task of reviving the game.

Heavy Spectrum founder Matt Birch relishes the opportunity to bring the series back. "We are excited to use the power of PlayStation 4 to create a Shadow of the Beast that can bring gamers that rare type of evocative experience that we enjoyed as a kids playing the original game," he said on the PlayStation.Blog.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Didn't see that coming! I still remember the cheat in the 2nd game (walk to the guy on the left, and ask for ten pints!) - SoTB had the unique Psygnosis artstyle but the game itself was (in hindsight) a bit naff really. Will be interested to see what direction they take it.

Kinda hard to put this together with the original. The art design is a bit of a departure I think. And, it looks like this is moving more towards a vs masses style game instead of a platformer like the original. But, they HAVE to get the music and mood right or it's just not a SotB game.

I enjoyed the graphics and the awesome music but playing the game? I don't remember enjoying that part much.
