Trademarks suggest Nintendo reviving Seaman
Seaman may be making a return. Nintendo has registered two trademarks recently, both regarding a "fish with a human face."
After floundering for several years, one of gaming's more bizarre mascots could be coming back. A pair of trademarks from Nintendo hint at the company bringing back the sardonic Seaman--or at least some other character with a fish body and a human head.
Siliconera reports that Nintendo registered trademarks for "Mysterious Pet: Legend of the Fish With A Human Face" and "Mysterious Partner: Legend of the Fish With A Human Face" in Japan. Considering the dearth of human-faced-fish in video games, Seaman seems like the obvious conclusion.
Last year, a report from Japanese newspaper Nikkei claimed that Seaman is in development for the 3DS, as part of a Nintendo initiative to "revive other publisher's titles on the 3DS."
