Funny story. In college we created a game where me and a buddy would sit on our futon, and throw a tennis ball off the wall at the and try to hit the other person in the face or the balls. 2 points for the face 1 for the balls. You weren't allowed to move or they got another throw. We named the game nocturnal emisson. Some epic nose shots making your eyes water.

I always laugh when a game wins an e3 award. It'd be like a movie winning an award for best trailer. ie, winning for something that's not the final product.

But I guess the average customer wouldn't know that when they see "Best of e3" sticker on the box.

don't the press typically get closer looks in the backroom demos?

Yes, but still, it's not the final product (or sometimes even remotely close to it) that they're seeing and judging. An e3 award amounts to who's the best in advertising and promoting.

Games have to be playable to some degree.

NO I think all the games judged for best of show are played by everyone that votes, and that goes for every category here. TitanFall was played and liked by majority of industry leaders, writers, developers and peers so your assumptions that this is a give away award is pretty ignorant of the facts.

I guess I didn't make my point clear. These awards are given to games that are sometimes not even close to their final state. It doesn't matter if it's playable or not. And the demo may not even be representative of the entire game. Metal Gear Solid 2 won several e3 awards, and I think most of us can all agree that the tanker level was not like the rest of the game.

Had to be playable on the show floor to qualify. Witcher 3 wasn't playable.

Two new consoles, one seen for the first time at E3 while the press creamed its pants about its new controller, and the Oculus Rift wins best hardware.
