Microsoft accepting applications for next-gen Kinect for Windows SDK
Microsoft has opened up applications for a pre-release version of the next-gen Kinect software development kit.
As promised, Microsoft's next-gen version of Kinect is coming to PC. Developers interested in getting early access to the camera can now apply for one.
There are "limited spots" in the program, which costs $399. While pricey, keep in mind for that the fee includes two Kinect devices: a pre-release/alpha sensor, and a final retail sensor as well.
Applications (via Engadget) are due by the end of July, with successful applicants being notified in August. The pre-release period will begin in November--a few months before Kinect's official 2014 launch.

Having seen the hardware operating, I can safely say this is several levels higher res than the first version, the way it was meant to be the first time around, better dark room performance, more people tracked, better joint/extremity recog,etc
(If you whine about the NSA watching you 'play' inappropriately with your cat at 4am, maybe you should turn off your phone and webcam/smart TV as well)-
Seeing as it's optional on the PC, I don't see many people complaining about a device they chose to purchase and install. Force users to have it turned on at all times (even the Xbox One isn't doing this), might get a different reaction.
