A brand new Tekken game is coming out exclusively on PlayStation 3 this week. And it will be free-to-play.
Namco Bandai has announced the next game in its iconic fighting franchise. Tekken Revolution will launch on PlayStation Network this week with eight characters and will let players play offline in Arcade Mode and offline in online ranked and player matches.
Unlike Dead or Alive 5: Core Fighters, Namco Bandai is making their free-to-play game more than just a piecemeal release of a previously released game. Whereas Team Ninja's take on F2P has players purchasing more characters, Tekken Revolution integrates free-to-play aspects into the core gameplay itself.
For example, characters can now be leveled up in three attributes: strength, endurance, and vigor. "Develop a defensive tank character with high HP to withstand knockout blows while offense focused players can create a damage-inflicting character with low health but high critical hit rates to devastate opponents with a flurry of attacks," Namco Bandai describes. As is our experience with free-to-play games, there will likely be a number of purchasable boosters to make earning XP faster and give you an edge in the competitive scene.
There are also new Special Arts and Critical Arts moves being integrated into the gameplay, which Namco Bandai says will "help newcomers deliver hard-hitting attacks and advanced players to employ new strategies with their favorite fighters."
