Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs now due end of summer

With the end of June approaching and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs's marketing machine not ratcheting up, it's no surprise that the scare 'em up is missing its planned Q2 release. Still, chin up, the wait isn't that much longer: expect to be yelling into your webcam towards the end of summer. In fact, the sunshine will be a perfect excuse for why you're refusing to go anywhere near your PC.

"One of the great things about being an indie developer is you can really spend the time you want and need on a game without the pressure to release by a certain point," co-developer thechineseroom's Dan Pinchbeck told Polygon.

"One of the things that's important about the Amnesia franchise is you get a top grade game that runs on quite low spec machines, and as we've pushed upwards with the visual quality of Pigs, it's quite a technical challenge making sure that you can drive specs down whilst driving fidelity up. That takes time to get really right, but it's an investment that's worth doing."

Amnesia creator Frictional Games' Jens Nilsson also said, "We are optimizing, tweaking and in general putting the FG expertise to good use." Porting and localising are taking time too.

This isn't the first delay either, but wouldn't you rather it be as grimy and unpleasant as it can? Frictional says we can "look forward to gaming with the piggies as the summer comes to an end."

Ha, you should be playing a game like that in the dark anyway!

They can take as long as they need. Day-one purchase.

Actually, I remember Frictional running a deal where purchasing in advance shaved 50% off the price. I'd totally do that again.

I'm buying it regardless of the price. I've been stocking up new unsoiled underwear.

Why ruin fresh pairs? Selling them to Japanese businessmen?

Why do you think I'm willing to buy the game at any price? It'll pay for itself in 15 minutes!

That was when they were on the bring of shutting down, and still thought they were going to shut down after Amnesia's release anyways. They were desperate for money and did that to build up more attention and a sustain day-to-day operations. Since Amnesia has sold over 1.2 million (probably more) I doubt they'll run a 50% off pre-purchase again.

Machine for Pigs should initially sell much better than Amnesia did, which will bode well for average selling price and revenue. I want to see developers like Frictional and Chinese Room flourish. I'll preorder this game as soon as available.

So I played Amnesia a little bit -- last thing I remember was being a little past the invisible water stomper. No doubt that game is stressful, it bordered on being too dreadful to have any fun with it if you play it with headphones in the dark, just....stress. Anyway, behind all the scares, is the story any good? I may trudge through it if the payoff is worth it.

Yes, the last area is pretty damn good.

Bullshit and particularly disingenuous given this developer's precarious financial situation around the launch of the original Amnesia.
