Namco Bandai has declared that "Pac is back!" I wasn't aware that Pac had ever left, but regardless, Pac-Man is coming back to consoles later this year in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. It'll feature everything you remember about the dot-munching hero, including a whole lot of platforming! (Wait, that doesn't sound right.)

Indeed, instead of the classic maze setup, this new Pac-Man title will be a 3D platformer. The debut trailer shows Pac-Man jumping around PacWorld, eating ghosts, and grabbing Power Pellets that appear to grant power-ups. One of the powers on display was a Chameleon suit that showed Pac-Man navigating platforms with the aid of a long Yoshi-like tongue. The trailer promises big appetite, bigger adventure, and a bigger nose! Ok, it doesn't say that last part, but seriously--look at that thing! That's one prominent proboscis!

Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures will be based on the upcoming Disney XD series of the same name. Look for it to roll onto Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U this fall, with a side-scrolling version set to come to the 3DS around the same time.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
