Wolfenstein: The New Order is single-player only
Wolfenstein: The New Order will be single-player only, and MachineGames has shared more on the story and setting of the game.
Wolfenstein: The New Order, announced yesterday from MachineGames, won't have a multiplayer mode. The developer revealed the single-player focus today, along with new revelations about the story and setting of the franchise's return.
GameSpot shared the details. We knew from yesterday's announcement that it takes place in an alternate 1960s, in which Nazis won World War 2. B.J. Blazkowicz has apparently been locked in an asylum since defeating robo-Hitler, so his discoveries about the world echo our own. Among them: some kind of large scientific leap led the Nazis to create an array of new technologies, and even win the race to the moon.
The technological achievements also lead the weaponry and enemies. MachineGames is trying for a retro sci-fi feel, introducing elements like a laser turret and various robotic enemies like drones and sharp-jawed robo-dogs. They want the game to be focused on movement, so you can duck behind cover but the game has no cover mechanic.
Finally, though Wolfenstein focuses primarily on action, you'll be exploring and solving puzzles in various international locales. Specifically mentioned are Polish mountains, and the Berlin catacombs.

1. almost no one is interested in shooter MP development these days, why try and chip away at the dominance of CoD/Battlefield/Halo(is Halo even still a thing?) in the market?
publishers have seen too many titles crash and burn to risk work in that direction right now, I think.
2. and this is fine - it is a very rare studio these days, that could possibly pull off a dual SP and MP shooter development with success. this means the SP has just got a ten times better chance of excellence, IMO. -

no. QW was based on Enemy territory which was a modified version of RTCW mp, which itself was a variation of quake 3 fortress. the developer of QW started off as a developer of RTCW maps. most famously Market Garden

Sounds good. Are these guys supposed to be good devs? I haven't played any of their previous games.
Was Syndicate good? I don't think it even got released in Australia.
I'm keen to see if/how they've tweaked idTech 5 for this. I thought Rage was pretty fun (come at me, bros) and the engine felt good, but mainly just needed a bump in texture res and some more dynamics. -
