As lovely as Steam is, it's a terrible shame that so many people apparently refuse to buy games not on Valve's digital distribution platform. Steam Greenlight has helped much-desired games get attention and onto Steam, but it's moved quite slowly until now. Valve yesterday approved another three Greenlight games for Steam, and says it plans to do smaller, more frequent batches going forward.

Yesterday's batch will see delightful "dystopian document thriller" Papers, Please, sci-fi sandbox craft 'em up Edge of Space and, curiously, the poorly-reviewed action-RPG Venetica all released on Steam when ready. Never underestimate the fanaticism and numbers of weird European RPG lovers.

"We have decided to Greenlight a smaller batch this time, so we can move more quickly," Valve's Alden Kroll said in the announcement. "There are lots of titles getting attention, so we are likely to continue Greenlighting titles in this quicker, but smaller batch fashion."

Greenlight has now seen 87 games approved for Steam since last July, though only 31 are released there so far. Some either aren't finished yet, or are in the pipeline. It's also cleared 13 things which you can run on your PC yet aren't games. 'Productivity software.' That sort of thing.
