Rumor: Batman: Arkham Origins to have new voice for the dark knight

Batman: Arkham Origins will use a new voice actor to represent a younger Dark Knight, according to a South African magazine.

Kevin Conroy has been the voice of Batman throughout a lot of iterations, but WB Montreal may be using a different actor to play the Dark Knight in the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins. A report from a South African magazine claims that Conroy is out for this installment, since the game features a younger Bruce Wayne.

NAG Magazine (via Polygon) states, "To fit the younger vision of the Caped Crusader, WB Games Montreal decided to go with a new voice talent." That doesn't mean the studio is cleaning house completely, though. Nolan North will reprise his role as The Penguin, and add Black Mask to his list of characters as well. Tom Kane will return as Commissioner Gordon, and Martin Jarvis will again play Alfred.

Conroy might not be the only voice from the classic Animated Series cartoon that doesn't turn up for this installment. After Arkham City, veteran Joker voice Mark Hamill said he was done playing the character. But if Conroy is out, it doesn't mean he'll be replaced by a Batman newbie. Though recent DC Animated movies have used Conroy with some regularity, other actors have been tapped as well. Benjamin McKenzie played a younger Batman in the animated adaptation of Batman: Year One, and Peter Weller played an older one for The Dark Knight Returns. If WB Montreal wants consistency with the animated movies, McKenzie would be the reasonable choice.

Shacknews has contacted Warner Bros and will update as more information becomes available.

I was pretty sure Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill both had already said they were done with those characters. That was why it wasn't them in The Dark Knight Rises.

RoboCop did a good job as Batman though.

Kevin Conroy voiced Batman for Injustice: Gods Among Us, so he's not quite done yet.

The younger Batman angle does make this sound plausible. Not sure who they'd get, though.

Except Conroy recently appeared in Injustice as Batman.

Apparently I don't have one, but I thought I'd heard it somewhere... Maybe not.

Hamil's voice is shot. He can't do that voice anymore. It was nice to hear him again in Arkham City, but he was really strained.

        Conroy's never gonna be done.

Hamill said a while ago (Maybe 6mo?) that he wouldn't be doing the Joker anymore because it was too hard on his voice.

I am good with it; a person voice does not make the game for me. I am more concerned about the annual making of the game. I do not want an AC3 or COD.

So by their logic Alfred and Gordon are still pretty old with a young Bruce. So when Bruce grows up Alfred and Gordon will be in the retirement home together.

Maybe they wanted to do the 'full motion-capture experience' for him, eh? Take a page from Eidos, eh?

When did the Arkham-verse become a dead-franchise? It has two entries for Gigi's sake

Whats next "mulit-player" if this game isn't giving out signs I don't know what is. Doubtful I will pick this up right away.

I'd still play the game, but not having Conroy as Batman in a series that already featured him in the role -- prequel or not -- I think is a dumb move.

Since it's an origins story of sorts, I imagine it's a younger, slightly more naive Batman. Depending on how they handle it, this could make a little sense. Just a little....
